IP degree of protection / IP protection class

IP stands for "Ingress Protection". The IP protection class indicates how an enclosure is protected against the ingress of dirt, dust, water or even body parts and objects.

The IP protection class is determined or checked by a tightness test and specified according to a fixed numbering system (e.g. IP65).

The first digit after the "IP" indicates the degree of protection against contact or foreign bodies. It ranges from 0 (no protection) to 6 (dust-tight).

The second digit of the IP protection class describes the protection against moisture or water. It ranges from 0 (no protection) to 9 (protection against water during high-pressure/steam jet cleaning).

If one of the categories is not specified and is therefore not assigned a number, it is replaced by the letter X (for example "IPX1")

When manufacturing assemblies for the transportation sector, Arnold naturally always focuses on the customer's requirements.

Protection class IP55 is usually sufficient for products for the interior of railroads. For products that are mounted on the outside of conveyors (exterior), protection class IP65 is usually expected.
