Art in public buildings
The German government sponsors the construction of artworks in public spaces and regularly holds competitions for such projects. Arnold supports artists entering these competitions from the very beginning, helping with the preparatory work (which can be substantial) and finding concrete solutions for putting their designs into practice.
Close cooperation with artists is a must
In such cases, comprehensive consultation is indispensable. Aluminum, steel, bronze, stainless steel, or something completely different: which metal to use for the artwork? What are the pros and cons of the various options, both for production and subsequent maintenance? Choosing the right material for a sculpture or other artwork also depends on the ways in which the material will be worked.
When entering a competition, artists are confronted with a variety of issues:
- Project budget
- Selecting the various production processes
- Support for planning, construction, and development
- Obtaining a building permit
- Production of the required components
- Assembly of the finished artwork
A flying carpet in Berlin? What’s your idea?
Artist Pae White won the competition for the new Berlin-Brandenburg airport with her design titled "THE Magic Carpet". Arnold supported her from the initial design of the carpet all the way to its assembly at the airport.
