Project: Electron, Infinite, Dimension, Star (2010)
Place: Installation view of stainless steel columns at the exhibition "New Works in Bronze and Steel" at David Zwirner, New York
Artist / Design: John McCracken
The great challenge with the sculptures "Electron", "Infinite", "Dimension" and "Star" was to produce monolithic bodies from highly polished stainless steel without distortion. No joint was allowed to be visible. For the sculptures to look as if they had been "created from one piece", a great deal of patience and sensitivity is required when processing metal. In the meantime, more than thirty stainless steel columns in different dimensions have been realized for John McCracken and the John McCracken Estate.
