Ann Reder

A tribute to the inventor of the telephone
In the 19th century, Friedrichsdorf was the home of telephone inventor Philipp Reis. As a tribute to this important inventor, the town's cultural foundation announced an art competition for a spinning top sculpture to honor his legacy. The sculptor Ann Reder from Frankfurt convinced the jury with her concept: two curved rectangles facing each other symbolize distance and proximity in communication.

Symbolism for closeness and distance in communication
Arnold was involved in Reder's project from the outset, assisting with the preparation of the application documents, particularly with regard to feasibility and cost estimates. The aluminum sculpture was produced in a three-month process. Sheet metal was laser cut, formed, welded and finally painted. It was made from aluminum sheet of the alloy AlMg4.5Mn with a material thickness of 4 mm.
It is a self-supporting welded construction that does not require an additional internal structure. Each element is inclined horizontally by 14 degrees and vertically by 12 degrees. The height of the elements is 2.70 m and the distance between the individual elements is exactly one meter. The sheets are formed in two dimensions, with each element weighing around 150 kg. At the customer's request, a special color is used with an additional anti-graffiti coating.
