Welcome to the Gateway Gardens
Around 25,000 people will work in Frankfurt's newest district, Gateway Gardens, Which is located in close proximity oft he airport. Since fall 2022, a sculpture designed in the shape of the district's logo has welcomed visitors at the north entrance on De-Saint-Exupéry-Strasse. This new entrance was envisioned to be modern, timeless, and inviting invting according to the specifications of the Gateway Gardens property company and the Frankfurt design agency Hauser Lacour.
67 meters of sandblasted weld seams
After creating a 3D design model, Arnold divided the logo into segments and the contours were cut out of three and five millimeter thick sheets using laser cutting technology. The challenge lay in rounding the middle elements and welding them to the straight parts to create depth and achieve a 3D effect. In total, 67 meters of weld seams, some with a very small radius, were ground down, and the entire piece was sandblasted once more. Producing Corten steel sculptures with a uniform rusty surface requires meticulous craftsmanship and clean, precise work.
We protect against rust with rust
Corten steel is corrosion-resistant and weatherproof because oxides of phosphates and sulphates form a chemical barrier layer under the rusty surface - this is what makes it really durable. A chemical protective layer under the special patina makes expensive rust protection paint and restoration unnecessary.
